Dev Diary #1 - Process
Hello fellow Earth-dwellers!
First of all, thank you so much for those who have supported SAMUDRA and tried the alpha, your feedback had been crucial and are all greatly appreciated!
This post will be the first of many Dev Diaries from Khayalan Arts.

We’re a team of storytellers/ game developers from Jakarta who grouped up in 2019 to form an Indie game company, TLDR we tremendously enjoy great challenging story experiences in whatever format it may be - especially in puzzle adventure classics like ICO, Journey, Limbo, Inside, Once Upon a Coma or modern titles such as Little Nightmare, Gris, The Gardens Between and many many many more, basically we thirst to create a game with themes that’s close to our hearts, that we can enjoy playing ourselves and be proud of for a long time :)
So today I'd like to share a little process on how we approach one of the early environment art & design.
The process of getting a scene done in SAMUDRA usually goes like this:
Intense Research > Brainstorming > Concepting the level >
Drafting > Play-testing > Re-adjusting > Color blocking > Decor/ layering >
Re-adjust again > Polishing > VFX > SFX > OST
Re-adjust again again > Play-testing again > Look up tutorials, learn new stuff
Re-adjust again again again > Play-testing again again again >
Thought of new idea > Repeat step 1 >
