Dev Diary #2 - Dive


Fellow Dreamers!

Last week, I shared about a slice of process that goes into designing an environment in SAMUDRA.

This week I’m here to talk a little more about some of the illustrations that we have recently put out :)

The Fall

This captured moment represents the beginning of it all; for this project, for the story, for the team. Metaphorically this also represents the player, 'you', at the beginning of the game; to let yourself go - to dive and fall into the immersive world of SAMUDRA.

The 1st Encounter

This is a moment that occurs very early in the game, the player’s encounter with the 1st Epic Creature in the game; The Lantern Fish. You don’t really know what to expect or what you are really dealing with - that sweet spot between curiosity & tension.

SAMUDRA is a world that builds itself on the realm of Imagination, theme of Pollution, Culture, Mental Health issues, Nature vs Corporation. These are the core values that really defines how we as team approaches every single level, moments, puzzles, characters, design.  Many of the levels or events were designed in reflection to real life experiences & inspirations, so as surreal as a it may seem to have a casually clothed kid with a diving helmet not exploding at the bottom of the ocean - the team and I hope to deliver a grounded narrative that is in its essence relatable.
