Dev Diary #3 - Themes

Heya Dreamers!

This week I'd like to share a little bit of our Concept Artwork for some of the levels that will be featured in the final game :)

(From top to bottom)

Bottom of the Sea - Where the journey begins, the bowels of the Earth, this is where all the pollution drifts to, the graveyard of all the forgotten objects from the Surface-dwellers.  We designed this level almost as if the player crash-landed on the moon or another foreign planet, deserted, muted.

Coral Grave - This is where you really see the impact of factory waste and global warming affecting corals, we designed the level to be as ethereal and beautiful, but all white corals are really dead corals and we wanted to make sure that this message is very visual.

Oil Rig - The epitome of human evolution, and greed. Not all surface dwellers have bad intentions, but ignorance and compliance towards carbon footprints are just as bad. This area are heavily inspired by real life refineries, factories & prisons.

Sunken City pt 1 (Cave) - Without revealing too much, lets just say this is our Indonesian version of Atlantis.

Sunken City pt 2 (Volcano) - Also without revealing too much, lets just say this our version of epic trek towards Mordor.

Of course these are only concept and teasers to the actual levels - there are more secret areas & locations to be discovered in the final experience!

I’d also like to share that we at Khayalan Arts aren’t only active in creation as game developers; we are in essence story-tellers - and telling stories is what we do - and some of those stories we tell via short stories, music, comic, art classes or artistic exhibitions. We were invited to exhibit an art installation this weekend in Jakarta that brings awareness towards how plastic pollution affects our Ocean - this is the 2nd public Plastic Pollution Themed Art Installation we did since the company was founded here's a pic of our booth at the event;

We were also responsible for creating a 16 foot Monster Fish made out of Plastic that were roamed around Jakarta’s busiest district as a sign of protest against Single Used Plastic last year in 2019, alongside 50 Non-Governmental Organizations, it was an unforgettable moment in our young career.
