Dev Diary #14 - Life is a puzzle

Hello Earth Dwellers & Puzzle lovers!

'Gear' up for our upcoming final beta demo release at the end of June, this demo includes an updated version of particular puzzle mini games among many other updates & tweaks. 

Here's a sneak peek to what we've been developing on the puzzle end.  (WIP)

As always with this project our team referenced a lot of Steampunk-ish designs, to stay consistent with the retro vintage oil-rig setting featured in the demo.  We also looked at our favorite designs from charming games like Machinarium & Samorost. And lots, lots of gears. 

However the biggest challenge in creating a puzzle is of course - working out the puzzles. A puzzle design requires tons and tons of testings towards balancing its difficulty level, intuitive & clear User Interface to navigate and presenting an objective, and most importantly in our game - we present all of the above without the aid of any dialog, and that's always a fun-time/ brain grinding discussion guaranteed for us puzzle makers in the team :)

Our jigsaw puzzle philosophy is not only limited within the puzzle mini games, it is also something I as writer/designer of this game take to heart and instill towards how we present and package the story/ lore of this project. In the final game, you as the player will experience a somewhat fragmented information that scatters throughout the journey, all the pieces that will eventually lead up to the ending scene.
