Dev Diary #30 - The Gamelan

Hello Earth-Dwellers!

We love music-based puzzles! How bout you?

Without spoiling anything - in this particular puzzle, we dive deep into our native Javanese culture, the whole level is rooted in the ancient design of the southeast Asian Sriwijaya empire from back in the day, and so with tons and tons of real-life references - we took creative liberty in showcasing beautifully intricate wall carving designs and put our national instrument as the centerpiece of it all, The Gamelan.

Gamelan is a Javanese/Indonesian word for ensemble. The word ‘gamel’ means to hammer something in Javanese. The Gamelan creates an ‘impressionistic’ tone clusters that are known for its mellifluousness sound and the soothing, meditative quality.

In Javanese mythology, the Gamelan was created in Saka era 167 (c. 230 C.E.) by Sang Hyang Guru, from a palace on the Maendra mountains in Medangkamulan (now Mount Lawu). He needed a signal to summon the gods, and thus invented the gong.

Are you excited to come across a puzzle like this?
